The Puig de Maria is a short but punchy climb in the north of Mallorca, starting and finishing in the historic town of Pollença. This Category 4 ascent reaches a summit elevation of 191 metres. The monastery at the top dates back to the 14th century and remains one of the island’s most iconic landmarks.
Furthermore, the Puig de Maria has become a firm favourite on every cyclist’s Mallorca bucket list. The climb covers just 1.5 kilometres, yet packs in 120 metres of elevation at an average gradient of 8.1 percent. However, the maximum gradient of 14.5 percent demands respect, because it arrives without much warning.
Puig de Maria: Cycling Mallorca’s Sacred Summit
Above all, it is the panoramic view from the top that makes the Puig de Maria so rewarding after the effort. You can see the Serra de Tramuntana, the Bay of Pollença, and on clear days even the island of Menorca. The monastery also serves refreshments, so the Puig de Maria rewards you in more ways than one.
